Congress Protests in Jammu North Over Alleged Ram Temple Fund Irregularities

Congress Party Stages Massive Protest in Jammu Against 'Chanda Chori' Scam in Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Funds Under Leadership of Vice President Hari Singh Chib and Incharge Surinder Bhagat

Jammu, July 14, 2026: Hundreds of Congress workers and supporters today staged a spirited protest in the Jammu North Assembly Segment against the alleged misappropriation of public donations (“Chanda Chori”) meant for the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya. The demonstration highlighted growing public anger over reports of financial irregularities and lack of transparency in the handling of crores of rupees collected from devotees across the country for the sacred temple project.

The protest was organised under the leadership of Senior Congress leader and Vice President Shri Hari Singh Chib and Congress Incharge Shri Surinder Bhagat, and led by Senior Congress leader Shri Mula Ram, along with District Jammu Rural President Shri Neeraj Kundan. Party workers raised slogans demanding a thorough investigation, full accountability, and immediate return of misappropriated funds to the temple trust. The atmosphere was charged with patriotic fervour as participants carried placards reading “Save Ram Mandir from Loot”, “Where has the Chanda Gone?” and “Congress Demands Transparency in Temple Funds”.

Speaking to the media during the protest, Senior Congress leader Shri Mula Ram said: “The Ram Janmabhoomi Temple is not just a place of worship for Hindus but a symbol of India’s cultural and civilisational heritage. Crores of rupees were donated by ordinary devotees with immense faith and devotion. However, shocking reports of fund embezzlement have surfaced, raising serious questions on the intentions of those managing the trust. The Congress party will not remain silent. We demand a high-level judicial inquiry, complete audit of accounts, and strict action against those involved in this betrayal of public trust. The people of Jammu and Kashmir stand united with the sentiments of crores of Hindus across the nation who feel cheated.”

Shri Hari Singh Chib and Shri Neeraj Kundan, in a joint statement, said: “This protest is the voice of the common people who contributed selflessly for the construction of the grand Ram Temple. The alleged ‘Chanda Chori’ scandal is a direct insult to their devotion. The BJP, which claims credit for the temple, must explain where the funds have disappeared. Congress has always stood for the protection of religious institutions and their sanctity. We cannot allow corruption to tarnish this historic achievement. Our demand is clear – disclose the complete utilisation of funds, conduct an independent audit, and ensure that every paisa reaches the temple development. Congress will continue to raise this issue at every level until full transparency is restored and the guilty are punished.”

Among those who participated in the protest were Shri Mula Ram, Shri Hari Singh Chib, Shri Neeraj Kundan, Shri Ajay Lakhotra, Shri Surinder Kumar, Shri Som Nath Sharma, Block Presidents Shri H.S. Baghi, Shri Parshotam Singh, Shri Tarun Vaid, Shri Rajinder Singh, Shri Om Parkash, Shri Kaka Ram, Shri Madan Singh, Shri Jung Bahadur, Shri Kamal Singh, Shri Pummy, Shri Parveen Akhter and Shri Shahbaj Khan, besides hundreds of Congress workers and local residents.
