Cyber Police Kashmir Warns Public Against Sharing Security Deployment Content, Cites Legal Consequences
Srinagar, May 7: The Cyber Police Kashmir has issued a strong public advisory cautioning individuals against uploading or circulating any visuals or information related to security deployments, troop movements, or ongoing counter-terror operations on social media platforms. Authorities have emphasized that such actions pose grave security threats and will attract strict legal action under cyber and national security laws.
In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), the Cyber Police stated:
“People are advised not to share or upload any content related to security deployments or operations on social media. Such actions pose serious risks and will invite strict legal action under relevant laws. Exercise responsibility, as such acts compromise public safety.”
The advisory comes in the wake of increasing incidents where sensitive security footage—sometimes shared unknowingly—has surfaced online, potentially alerting hostile elements and disrupting coordinated security measures. Officials have reiterated that these posts can jeopardize ongoing operations, endanger the lives of security personnel and civilians, and obstruct official duties.
Cyber Police officers stressed that even seemingly innocuous videos or photographs showing checkpoints, patrol movements, bunkers, or military convoys can be exploited by terror outfits and anti-national elements for reconnaissance purposes. “Once such content is in the public domain, it becomes impossible to control its misuse,” an official said, urging citizens to act responsibly.
Authorities have made it clear that violators will face prosecution under provisions of the Information Technology Act, Indian Penal Code, and other security-related statutes. Legal action may include FIRs, arrests, and seizure of digital devices used in the dissemination of such material.
