Cybersecurity Alert Issued Over Rising Digital Payment Frauds

Authorities ask banks and users to strengthen online transaction safeguards

MUMBAI, May 27: Cybersecurity agencies have issued a nationwide advisory following a sharp increase in digital payment frauds targeting mobile banking users and online shoppers.

Officials said cybercriminals are increasingly using fake customer care calls, phishing links and AI-generated voice scams to steal sensitive financial information.

Banks and financial institutions have been directed to improve fraud detection systems and strengthen customer awareness campaigns. Users were advised not to share OTPs, passwords or personal banking details with unknown callers.

According to officials, fraud attempts linked to digital wallets and UPI platforms have increased significantly in recent months due to the growing volume of online transactions.

Cybersecurity experts stressed the importance of multi-factor authentication and regular software updates to protect devices from malicious attacks.

Authorities said investigations are underway into several organised fraud networks operating through international digital channels.
