Dale Steyn’s Pace and Swing Inspired Me to Become a Fast Bowler: Nabi
Jammu & Kashmir pacer eyes IPL debut with Delhi Capitals after breakthrough domestic season
India, April 4: Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi has revealed that legendary South African fast bowler Dale Steyn played a crucial role in shaping his journey into professional cricket.
Nabi, who was instrumental in guiding J&K to their maiden Ranji Trophy triumph this season, is currently part of the Delhi Capitals setup and is eagerly awaiting his debut in the Indian Premier League. The young pacer could get his first opportunity when Delhi faces Mumbai Indians in their upcoming home fixture.
Speaking about his inspiration, Nabi said he closely followed Steyn during his early years. He admired the former Proteas speedster’s rare ability to generate sharp swing at high pace, which motivated him to pursue fast bowling with determination and ambition to represent India.
Reflecting on his early struggles, the 29 year old shared that his passion for cricket often led to disagreements at home. His father, who wanted him to pursue a career in medicine, did not initially support his cricketing ambitions. Despite this, Nabi remained committed to the sport, continuing to train and chase his dream.
Now on the verge of an IPL breakthrough, Nabi’s journey reflects persistence, sacrifice, and inspiration drawn from one of fast bowling’s greatest icons.
