Deputy CM slams BJP for Assembly disruptions, questions silence on SPO demands before Union Home Minister

Choudhary accuses BJP of ignoring SPO salary and regularisation demands, prioritising media drama over addressing real public issues in J&K.

Jammu, April 09: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday, questioning whether its legislators ever raised the long-standing demands of Special Police Officers (SPOs) with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Addressing media outside the Assembly, Choudhary accused BJP members of choosing political theatrics over serious discussions on public concerns.

“For the last ten years, SPOs—who are at the forefront of anti-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir—have been demanding fair salaries and regularization of their services. Yet the BJP remains silent on these critical issues,” Choudhary said, adding that such matters should be discussed in the Assembly, not sidelined in favour of headline-grabbing disruptions.

He alleged that BJP legislators entered the House only to create disturbances and conveniently avoided pressing issues such as power shortages, water supply, school infrastructure, road conditions, hospital facilities, rising unemployment, and the plight of daily wage workers. “While we have already formed a committee to look into the regularisation of daily wagers, BJP members continue to ignore the ground realities,” he asserted.

Choudhary further said that the Speaker had issued clear rulings to ensure the House functions according to the Constitution. “Despite this, BJP seems determined to hijack proceedings instead of contributing to a meaningful and people-centric session,” he remarked.

Highlighting the growing achievements of youth in rural sports, Choudhary said, “Youngsters in remote areas are excelling in sports, but sadly, no one—least of all BJP—is speaking about their facilities or future. This House is a platform for public voices, not a party’s press conference.”

Responding to queries on whether the Assembly session would be extended, he said, “That is the Speaker’s prerogative. As Deputy CM and elected MLA, I am committed to voicing my people’s issues.”

Concluding his remarks, Choudhary said that BJP’s repeated attempts to suppress genuine voices, both inside and outside the House, have always failed and will continue to fail in a vibrant democracy.
