Jammu, March 6th: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat has voluntarily reduced his personal security cover by over 65% in an effort to address the shortage of manpower within the force. Speaking at Thana Diwas in Jammu, he emphasized the importance of leading by example, stating that two-thirds of his security personnel have been relieved to ensure better deployment of resources where they are needed most. “Charity begins at home,” he remarked, highlighting his commitment to optimizing police operations.
To reinforce law and order, Prabhat revealed that additional personnel have been deployed even in Jammu, addressing concerns about effective policing and security preparedness. Acknowledging the challenges within the force, he assured that officers demonstrating exceptional performance would be rewarded with appropriate postings. “Systemic changes take time—Rome wasn’t built in a day,” he said, indicating a long-term vision for strengthening the department.
Commenting on the grave issue of drug trafficking, Prabhat directly accused Pakistan’s Army and ISI of orchestrating narcotics smuggling through terrorist groups to destabilize Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed serious concern over the increasing involvement of school-going children in drug-related activities, attributing it to a lack of parental oversight.
On matters of governance and leadership, the DGP dismissed any perception of authority, asserting, “I have no credentials of being a ruler; I am here to serve in Jammu and Kashmir.” Addressing women’s safety, he issued a stern warning, stating that if an Investigating Officer (IO) fails to file a chargesheet within the mandated 60-day period, strict action will be taken against them.
