The Potestors also demanded immediate closure of Sarore toll plaza and supported calls given by various organizations for Jammu bandh on Saturday. Earlier, DPAP leaders joined members of Beopar Mandal Samba who staged a sit-in Dharna against the functioning of Sarore toll plaza and imprisonment of YRS activists.
General Secretary RS Chib said the DPAP leadership was not allowed by jail authorities to meet YRS activists and in this regard Mr. Chib questioned BJP for remaining mute to this grave issue which people of Jammu are strongly resenting and protesting by giving a call for total bandh on Saturday. “It’s unfortunate that UT administration which is fully backed by BJP is implementing anti-people measures and the ruling party has failed people of Jammu for their mandate to govern,” said Chib, who also conveyed chairman DPAP Ghulam Nabi Azad’s displeasure over the anti-people means.
Expressing DPAP’s unwavering support to people’s concerns, Chib reminded Jammu residents of party’s sustained campaign against UT administration’s decisions on land eviction, ration curtailment, smart meters installation, property tax imposition, CUET students’ issue, potable water problems and other issues which hurt common man’s interests.
Slamming BJP for distancing itself from growing grave concerns of people of Jammu, Jugal Kishore Sharma elucidated failure of the ruling party in saving the interests of poor residents.“There was no point in arresting Jammu youth who were demanding closure of Sarore toll plaza as floods had already rendered roads and bridges useless and the government had no rationale to charge people at the toll. We demand unconditional release of all activists of Yuva Rajput Sabha without any charges or FIRs,” said Sharma, cautioning that it snowballed into a major crisis.
The protest march at Kathua was organised by former MLC Subash Gupta and District president Brijeshwar Singh Indoo while at Samba Vinod Mishra, General Secretary organised the demonstration and sit out dharna along with the members of Beopar Mandal Samba. They described the toll levying at Sarore as a burden on traders, pilgrims, industrialists, tourists and common Jammu people. Mr. vinod mishra further said that in case of delay in suspension of toll plaza at Sarore and release of the YRS leaders, the administration will be responsible for creation of law and order problem in the UT.
