Drone Strike Triggers Fire at Kuwait Airport Fuel Tank, Says Aviation Authority

No casualties reported as air defences intercept multiple drones amid escalating regional tensions.

KUWAIT CITY: A drone strike hit a fuel tank at Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, triggering a fire and highlighting the continued escalation of tensions in the Gulf amid the ongoing regional conflict.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the incident caused only limited damage and resulted in no casualties. Firefighting teams were swiftly deployed to control the blaze, officials said.

Security forces reported heightened aerial threats, with the Kuwait National Guard intercepting six drones early in the day. The military confirmed that air defence systems were actively responding to incoming missile and drone attacks.

The developments come as hostilities linked to the conflict involving Iran intensify across the region. In neighbouring Saudi Arabia, authorities said four drones were intercepted in the eastern part of the country.

Kuwait’s main airport has faced repeated attacks since the conflict began in late February. Earlier incidents included strikes on radar infrastructure and fuel storage facilities, as well as damage to a passenger terminal that left several people with minor injuries.

The continuing instability has significantly disrupted aviation operations, with many international airlines suspending or reducing flights to the Gulf due to safety concerns and fuel supply challenges.
