E-Governance Pioneer Amit Sharma IAS Assumes Leadership Role in Mizoram’s ICT Sector

Aizawl, Mizoram, Oct 5, 2024: In a significant development for the Mizoram government, Amit Sharma, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and a proud native of the J&K region, has been appointed as the Special Secretary with Independent Charge for the Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) and Cooperation departments. This appointment comes after his recent transfer from the Union Territory of Ladakh, sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

Sharma’s posting to Mizoram marks a notable chapter in his distinguished career, as he continues to focus on enhancing e-Governance across the states/UTs he serves. His appointment is particularly significant as Mizoram becomes the third state or Union Territory where he has assumed the role of IT Secretary, following his successful tenures in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. With nearly a decade of specialized experience in the field, Amit Sharma’s expertise is bolstered by his completion of the Executive Post Graduate Programme in e-Governance from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore, which he completed almost a decade ago.

Amit Sharma’s contributions to e-governance initiatives have been substantial. In Jammu and Kashmir, he played a pivotal role in the successful implementation of key projects, including the computerization of land records and the deployment of the eOffice system, which streamlined administrative processes in the Civil Secretariats of Jammu and Srinagar. His efforts in provisioning online services for citizens significantly improved accessibility and efficiency within the region.

In his recent assignment in Ladakh, Sharma was instrumental in setting up the UT Data Centre and Wide Area Network, which facilitated better connectivity and information sharing across various government departments. His strategic vision and hands-on approach to e-governance have garnered recognition, establishing him as a key player in enhancing technological integration within governmental operations.
