Education Department Sets Minimum Age Criteria for Nursery Admissions in J&K

Srinagar, Nov 30: The Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department has officially set the minimum age criteria for nursery admissions, following a review of the academic calendar and provisions under the National Education Policy-2020.

An order issued by the Principal Secretary to the Government, Suresh Kumar Gupta, highlights that the department has received numerous representations regarding the age requirements for children seeking admission to Nursery and Balvatika classes. This comes in the wake of the restoration of the November/December academic session in Kashmir Division and the winter zones of Jammu Division.

The order further clarifies that the National Education Policy-2020 mandates that children entering Nursery, Balvatika, Pre-school, or Anganwadi should be at least three years old. Given the return to the earlier academic calendar, it has become necessary to establish a clear deadline for calculating the minimum age of children, in line with the provisions of the National Education Policy.

In response, the department has set November 30th as the official date for determining the minimum age for children applying for admission in these early education programs in Kashmir Division and winter zones of Jammu Division.

All educational institutions in these regions have been directed to adhere to these guidelines to ensure a smooth and transparent admission process for the upcoming academic sessions. The decision aims to standardize the age criteria and streamline the process for both parents and schools.
