Former deputy CM Nirmal Singh’s Ban House demolition case hearing adjourned to March 15

24-02-2023 : The hearing for the demolition of former deputy chief minister Dr. Nirmal Singh’s illegally constructed house at Ban in Nagrota has been adjourned once again due to the unavailability of Singh’s counsel. The court in Jammu has set March 15 as the next date of hearing for final arguments in the case. Singh and his wife Mamta Singh were issued a notice for raising construction without seeking prior permission from Jammu Development Authority.

The JDA did not act against them initially, but it was only after an RTI application filed by whistle-blower Advocate Muzzaffar Ali Shah that the JDA disclosed its inaction. On Shah’s complaint, the JDA issued a demolition notice to Singhs, which was stayed by the J&K Special Tribunal on Mamta Singh’s statutory appeal. The matter has been adjourned on various hearings due to the non-availability of the Bench-II at J&K Special Tribunal, Jammu. The new date of hearing is now March 15, 2023.
