Fruit Growers’ Union Meets LG Sinha, Seeks Transport and Trade Support

SRINAGAR, Sept 15: A delegation of the Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers Cum Dealers Union, led by its Chairman Bashir Ahmad Basheer, called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday to discuss issues affecting fruit growers and traders in the region.

The delegation thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and LG Sinha for the introduction of the new Parcel Train service from Budgam to Adarsh Nagar, New Delhi, which they said would greatly benefit the fruit trade. They also highlighted the need for smoother movement of fruit-laden trucks on National Highway-44 and permission for 10-tyre trucks to ply on the Mughal Road.

Lieutenant Governor Sinha assured the delegation that immediate steps are being taken to address their concerns. He said adequate men and machinery have been deployed for the full restoration of the National Highway and that stranded fruit-laden trucks will be cleared on priority.

The LG further informed the delegation that railway freight terminals will be set up in different parts of the Valley to ease transport and boost trade for fruit growers.

Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, was also present at the meeting.
