Govt Denies Changes to LPG Refill Booking Rules, Calls Reports Misleading
Centre urges citizens to avoid panic booking, assures adequate LPG stocks and normal supply across the country.
NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Wednesday dismissed reports suggesting changes in LPG refill booking timelines, stating that existing rules remain unchanged and misinformation is being circulated.
In an official clarification, the Ministry said that claims of revised waiting periods for different categories of consumers are incorrect. It reiterated that the current refill booking norms continue as before, with no distinction based on connection type beyond the established timelines.
Authorities also urged the public not to believe unverified information or engage in panic booking, emphasising that sufficient LPG stocks are available and supply remains stable nationwide.
Senior officials highlighted that oil refineries are operating at high capacity with adequate crude reserves, ensuring uninterrupted availability of petroleum products, including LPG. They also noted that recent instances of panic buying were triggered by rumours rather than actual supply disruptions.
To further stabilise the situation, the government has increased allocation of commercial LPG to essential sectors such as hospitality, food processing, and community kitchens. Measures have also been taken to strengthen monitoring, including enforcement drives against illegal activities and inspections of distributors.
Additionally, efforts are underway to expand access to Piped Natural Gas (PNG), particularly for institutions like schools, hostels, and community kitchens, to reduce dependence on LPG cylinders.
Officials reiterated that the energy supply chain remains robust despite global uncertainties and appealed to citizens to rely only on official updates.
