Govt Issues High Alert: Millions of Android Phones in India Vulnerable to Hacking — Is Yours Safe?

Government warns millions of Android users of critical security flaws that could let hackers gain control of devices.

New  Delhi, Nov 7 : The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a high severity security warning for millions of Android smartphone users across the country. The agency has flagged multiple vulnerabilities in the Google Android operating system that could allow cyber attackers to gain elevated privileges or even execute arbitrary code on affected devices.
According to CERT-In, the vulnerabilities impact several widely used Android versions  Android 13, Android 14, Android 15, and Android 16 putting a large user base at risk. Attackers could potentially exploit these flaws to take remote control of the device, steal personal data, or install malicious software without the user’s consent.
The government advisory urged users to immediately install the latest Android security updates and avoid downloading apps from untrusted sources. CERT-In also recommended keeping system settings on auto update mode to ensure timely patching of vulnerabilities.
This alert underscores growing concerns about smartphone cybersecurity, as India continues to be one of the largest Android markets globally, making it a prime target for hackers.

Users running Android 13 or later are advised to check for official Google security patches to safeguard their data and devices.
