Govt Set to Restore Darbar Move Tradition, Promises Relief for Jammu’s Ailing Economy, Says Minister Satish Sharma
Unprecedented Representation for Jammu: Minister Hails Omar Abdullah’s Historic Leadership
Srinagar, Oct 22: Minister Satish Sharma, a key member of the Omar Abdullah-led Cabinet, today announced that the Government is actively working towards restoring the tradition of the “Darbar Move,” which has been temporarily halted, causing significant repercussions for the business community in Jammu. Speaking at the conclusion of the J&K Science Congress-2024, Sharma emphasized the vital role the Darbar Move plays in Jammu’s economic health and expressed concern over the losses incurred due to its suspension.
“Jammu relies heavily on the Darbar Move, and the halt has negatively impacted the business sector. We are committed to restoring this tradition, which is crucial for the city’s economy,” Sharma stated in response to queries from reporters.
In addition to addressing the Darbar Move, the Minister revealed plans to increase the monthly ration allocation across Jammu and Kashmir. The increase, to be implemented in phases, will eventually double the current allocation, a move driven by public demand and in line with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s vision. “We will increase the ration allocation gradually, responding to the needs of the people. This will ultimately result in a doubling of the ration distribution,” he confirmed.
During a separate event, Sharma acknowledged the challenges that have accumulated over the past decade, noting that it will take at least five years to resolve them. He assured the public that the Government is working diligently to meet their expectations, particularly in key sectors such as food distribution and public services. “The damage done over the last decade is extensive, but we are committed to setting things right within five years,” he remarked.
Sharma, who oversees multiple portfolios including Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Youth Services & Sports, and Transport, pointed out that a comprehensive departmental review will be conducted shortly. This review aims to assess the needs of both the public and government employees, ensuring that policies and actions align with the public’s expectations.
“We will soon hold a detailed review to understand the demands of the people and the requirements of government employees. Our priority is to act in the best interests of the public, and necessary steps will be taken accordingly,” he explained.
The Minister also highlighted the unprecedented representation given to the Jammu region in the current Government. He praised Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his leadership, noting that the appointment of a Deputy Chief Minister from Jammu is a first in several decades, demonstrating the Government’s commitment to balanced representation.
“Omar Abdullah has won the hearts of the people of Jammu by doing what no government has done for them before—appointing a Deputy Chief Minister from the region with departments that directly impact the public. This representation is unprecedented, and the people of Jammu should recognize and appreciate it,” Sharma said.
Expressing optimism about the Government’s future efforts, Sharma called on government officers to cooperate with the administration, warning that inefficiencies would not be tolerated. He assured the public that investigations into various issues were already underway, and that visible improvements would soon follow.
“We are taking steps to address problems, and those responsible for inefficiencies will be held accountable. The public will soon see positive changes and relief,” Sharma concluded.
The remarks underscore the Government’s commitment to addressing Jammu and Kashmir’s pressing issues, from restoring historical traditions to improving essential services, while promoting regional representation and public welfare.
