IMD Predicts Widespread Rainfall Across Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and J&K Next Week

Meteorological department forecasts a week-long spell of widespread rainfall with chances of very heavy showers, thunderstorms and strong winds in several northern states

Panchkula, July 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted an active monsoon phase across northern India, with widespread rainfall expected in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan over the next week.

According to the latest weather bulletin issued by the IMD at 8:20 am on Thursday, several regions are likely to witness heavy rainfall activity between July 23 and July 28. The weather agency has also cautioned about the possibility of isolated very heavy showers in some areas during this period.

The Himalayan states are expected to remain under the influence of strong monsoon activity. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Uttarakhand are likely to receive widespread rainfall throughout the forecast period. Ladakh may experience light to moderate rainfall at isolated to scattered places during the next two days.

Rain Forecast for Punjab, Haryana and Delhi-NCR

The IMD has predicted widespread rainfall in Punjab on July 23 as well as July 27 and 28, while scattered showers are expected between July 24 and 26.

Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are likely to witness widespread rain activity towards the end of the week, particularly on July 27 and 28. Scattered rainfall has also been forecast in these areas from July 23 to July 26.

The weather department has issued a possibility of heavy rainfall over Punjab on July 23 and July 25, while Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi may receive heavy showers on July 23. Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi during July 27-28.

Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan to Witness Active Monsoon Conditions

Parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are also expected to experience significant rainfall during the coming days.

East Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive widespread rainfall on July 27 and 28, with scattered showers earlier in the week. West Uttar Pradesh may see widespread rain on July 28, while scattered rainfall activity is expected from July 23 to July 27.

In Rajasthan, western districts are forecast to receive widespread rainfall from July 23 to July 26, followed by scattered showers on July 27 and 28. East Rajasthan is likely to experience widespread rainfall between July 23 and July 27.

The IMD has also predicted isolated very heavy rainfall over East Rajasthan from July 23 to July 26, along with heavy showers in East Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh during July 27-28.

Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Likely in Several Regions

Apart from rainfall, the IMD has warned of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in various parts of northern India.

Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and adjoining regions may experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds between 30 and 40 kmph, with speeds reaching up to 50 kmph from July 23 to July 28.

West Rajasthan may witness thunderstorms with winds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph on July 23. Similar weather conditions are expected in East Rajasthan.

Uttarakhand is also likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning throughout the forecast period, while East and West Rajasthan may see such activity between July 24 and July 28.

IMD Advises Caution Amid Heavy Rain Forecast

The weather agency stated that the daily forecast and warnings will remain valid from 8:30 am on the given day until 8:30 am the following day.

With continuous monsoon activity expected across northern states, authorities have advised residents to remain alert, especially in areas vulnerable to waterlogging, landslides and weather related disruptions.

The upcoming week is expected to bring significant rainfall relief from heat but may also increase the risk of flash floods and local disruptions in hilly and low lying areas.
