India slams Pakistan over ‘grave’ rights violations in PoK, urges immediate end to abuses

At the UN General Assembly, India accused Pakistan of brutal repression and hypocrisy, urging it to stop suppressing civilians in illegally occupied parts of Kashmir.

UN, Oct 01 : In a strong statement at the United Nations General Assembly, India demanded that Pakistan immediately end the “grave” human rights abuses in the areas of Kashmir it has illegally occupied.

Bhavika Managalanandan, First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, said Pakistan’s forces and their proxies have killed several innocent civilians in recent weeks while crushing public protests for basic rights and freedoms in the region.

“We call upon Pakistan to stop the grave and ongoing human rights violations in the areas illegally occupied by it, where the population is in open revolt against Pakistan’s military occupation, repression, brutality and illegal exploitation of resources,” Managalanandan asserted.

Rejecting Islamabad’s repeated accusations against India, she said, “Repetitive allegations and lies change neither reality nor the truth. Pakistan’s double-speak and hypocrisy do not deserve the time and attention of this august forum.”

The Indian diplomat highlighted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir actively participate in democratic processes, proving the strength of India’s democracy. “We reject attempts by Pakistan to denigrate the people of India and the democratic choices regularly exercised by them,” she added.

Managalanandan also reminded the UN that the 1948 Security Council Resolution 47 had asked Pakistan to withdraw its troops and citizens from all parts of Kashmir—something Islamabad continues to violate to this day.

“Let me reiterate that the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are an integral and inalienable part of India,” she emphasized.

Reaffirming India’s strong human rights commitment, the Indian diplomat said the nation’s values are rooted in Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence and equality. “India’s domestic framework for human rights protection continues to evolve and strengthen,” she noted, citing the role of progressive legislation, the judiciary, and national and state human rights commissions.
