India’s Semiconductor Sector Raises $1.4 Billion as Chip Ecosystem Expands

Funding across hundreds of semiconductor companies highlights growing investor interest in India’s ambition to build a domestic chip industry.

NEW DELHI, Sep 14: India’s semiconductor industry has attracted around $1.4 billion in equity funding across 281 companies, signalling increasing investor interest in the country’s efforts to develop a stronger domestic chip ecosystem.

According to data cited in a recent industry report, nearly half of the total funding has been raised since 2025, with Bengaluru accounting for about 40 per cent of the investments.

The growth comes as India steps up efforts to strengthen capabilities in chip design, manufacturing and related technologies. The semiconductor push is also closely linked to the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence, which is driving demand for advanced processors and high-performance computing infrastructure.

The government has separately planned a second phase of its semiconductor programme with an investment of about $13 billion, aimed at expanding domestic production and reducing dependence on overseas supply chains.

The rising flow of capital into the sector is expected to support startups and established companies working across semiconductor design, manufacturing and associated technologies.
