Jammu and Kashmir Authorities Issue Avalanche Warning for 10 Districts Amid Inclement Weather

Srinagar, 19-02-2024 : In light of the ongoing inclement weather conditions characterized by rain and snowfall, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have issued a cautionary avalanche warning for the higher reaches of ten districts within the region over the next 24 hours.

The Jammu and Kashmir Disaster Management Authority (JKDMA) has indicated a “low danger” level avalanche threat projected at altitudes of 2500 meters above sea level in the elevated terrains of Anantnag and Kulgam districts situated in south Kashmir during the forthcoming day.

Furthermore, the JKDMA has highlighted the possibility of avalanches with a “medium danger” level anticipated above 2200 meters in areas spanning Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, and Ramban districts within the Jammu division, as well as Bandipora and Baramulla districts within the Kashmir valley over the next 24 hours.

Similarly, areas including Kupwara in north Kashmir and Ganderbal in central Kashmir face a heightened risk with avalanches predicted at a “high danger” level above 2200 meters during the same period.

Residents residing in these districts are urged to exercise caution and refrain from venturing into avalanche-prone regions until further notice.

With the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir experiencing a fresh spell of snowfall over the past couple of days, authorities have taken preemptive measures by reissuing avalanche warnings as a safety precaution for the populace.

Additionally, individuals residing in these districts are encouraged to utilize the emergency helpline number 112 in the event of any emergency situations.
