Jammu Police urges public vigilance, installs CCTV cameras after Delhi blast alert

Jammu, November 12: Jammu Police has intensified its public outreach and security preparedness across the city following the recent high-intensity explosion near Red Fort metro station in Delhi, which claimed at least 12 lives and destroyed several vehicles. In an effort to enhance vigilance and prevent any such incident locally, police officers visited various neighbourhoods and sensitive areas, urging residents and particularly traders to remain alert and proactively report any suspicious movement or unattended objects.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Vikram Bhau said that the objective of these interactions was to sensitise the public and strengthen community policing. Meetings were held with shopkeepers, street vendors, transporters, and business owners at the Jammu bus stand, a high-footfall zone that remains under constant surveillance. “We have asked people, especially those running shops or business establishments, to stay alert and inform us immediately if they notice anything unusual. Their cooperation is essential to maintaining security,” the officer told reporters.

A major part of the police advisory focuses on expanding surveillance through the installation of CCTV cameras. DSP Bhau encouraged citizens, traders, and commercial establishments to install high-resolution CCTV systems that can support law enforcement in monitoring areas more effectively. “We request everyone to adopt CCTV surveillance as part of the wider security system. It will significantly help the police in preventing and responding to any untoward situation,” he said.

Police teams have stepped up round-the-clock patrolling across the city and are closely monitoring feeds from dozens of CCTV cameras already installed in key locations. In the bus stand area, new cameras have been added to enhance coverage and ensure quick identification of suspicious movements. Quick reaction teams have also been deployed at strategic points to ensure immediate response capability. “Jammu Police is always at your service. Please contact us if you notice anything suspicious. We are prepared for any challenge and urge the public to stay vigilant but not panic,” DSP Bhau added.

In a parallel effort to ensure region-wide preparedness, senior police officers led by Deputy Inspector General Shiv Kumar Sharma conducted extensive outreach programmes in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts. These initiatives focused on raising awareness among both security personnel and the public in the aftermath of the Delhi blast.

Security has been tightened across the Jammu region, with heightened vigilance along the Jammu–Srinagar national highway, railway tracks, busy marketplaces, and other sensitive installations. Additional security measures have been implemented at the Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine and its base camp in Katra, given their high pilgrim footfall. Officials confirmed that a high alert has been issued across the region and that all forces have been instructed to maintain maximum readiness.

Police authorities reiterated that public cooperation is the backbone of preventive policing. With enhanced patrolling, upgraded CCTV surveillance, and joint efforts from the community, the security apparatus aims to ensure that the city remains safe and prepared to counter any threat.
