J&K Administration Launches Major Anti-Encroachment Drive in Udhampur

Udhampur, May 26: The district administration in Udhampur carried out a major anti-encroachment drive on Dhar Road near Mian Bagh, close to the Air Force Road, removing several illegally erected roadside structures during the operation.

Officials said temporary tin sheds had been set up on government land for commercial activities, leading to traffic congestion and raising safety concerns in the area. The demolition drive was conducted in the presence of revenue officials and police personnel to ensure smooth execution of the operation.

Naib Tehsildar Roun Maroof Khan stated that residents had repeatedly approached the administration with complaints regarding the unauthorised occupation of state land. According to him, the issue had remained unresolved for a long time despite continuous public objections.

He said the encroachments had become a serious concern as large gatherings used to take place near the highway during evening hours, increasing the possibility of road accidents and creating inconvenience for commuters.

Security Concerns Prompt Swift Administrative Action

The official further revealed that the area is considered highly sensitive due to the presence of Air Force establishments and movement of security forces. Authorities recently received inputs from the Air Force and police regarding surveillance concerns linked to some of the structures.

Khan informed that out of the seven temporary sheds identified during the inspection, five were voluntarily removed by the occupants after notices were issued by the administration. The remaining two structures were later demolished by the authorities.

He added that CCTV cameras installed in two of the sheds were reportedly directed towards the road and nearby sensitive locations, prompting immediate action from the administration in coordination with security agencies.

Crackdown on Illegal Activities Continues Across Jammu Region

Meanwhile, in a separate action on May 23, the Jammu district administration launched a demolition drive in the Miran Sahib area against properties allegedly connected to drug smuggling activities.

Heavy police deployment and administrative teams were present during the bulldozer operation to maintain law and order as authorities intensified their crackdown on illegal narcotics networks and unlawful encroachments in the region.
