J&K Cop Shoots Wife Dead After Domestic Quarrel, Attempts Suicide

SRINAGAR, May 16: A probationary sub-inspector of Jammu and Kashmir Police allegedly shot dead his wife following a domestic dispute before attempting suicide in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Deep Singh, was posted at a Special Operations Group (SOG) camp in the Kandi area of Kupwara. According to officials, an argument broke out between the couple late Friday night at their residence.

During the confrontation, Singh allegedly used his service weapon to fire at his wife, Bhawana, resulting in her death on the spot, officials said.

After the incident, the officer reportedly turned the weapon on himself and sustained critical injuries.

He was initially shifted to a nearby medical facility and later referred to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar, where he is undergoing treatment.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident and further investigation is underway.
