JK Five-Phase Electoral Roadmap: Unveiling the Voting Dynamics in J&K’s Lok Sabha Elections

Srinagar,16-03-2024 : The Election Commission announced the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, revealing a five-phase voting process across the Union Territory’s parliamentary constituencies. These elections are part of the larger national electoral process, spanning seven phases from April 19 to June 4, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking a third consecutive term.

In the first phase on April 19, the Udhampur Lok Sabha seat in the Jammu region will witness voting. The notification for this phase will be issued on March 20, with the nomination filing deadline set for March 27, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature on March 30.

Following this, the Jammu Lok Sabha seat will go to polls in the second phase on April 26. The notification will be issued on March 28, nominations accepted until April 4, and the withdrawal deadline on April 8.

Moving to the Anantnag constituency, which includes Rajouri and Poonch areas post-delimitation, voting will take place on May 7 in the third phase. The notification for this phase will be issued on April 12, with nominations accepted until April 19, and withdrawal until April 22.

For the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, polling is scheduled for the fourth phase on May 13. The notification will be issued on April 18, nominations accepted until April 25, and withdrawal until April 29. Notably, Pulwama and Shopian districts are newly added to this constituency, while Budgam and Beerwah segments have been removed.

Lastly, the Baramulla constituency in north Kashmir will undergo voting on May 20 in the fifth phase. The notification for this phase will be issued on April 26, nominations accepted until May 3, and withdrawal until May 6.

Additionally, the Ladakh Lok Sabha seat, covering Kargil and Leh districts, will also see polling in the fifth phase. A total of 86.93 lakh voters, including 42.58 lakh women and 161 individuals of the third gender, are eligible to cast their votes in Jammu and Kashmir, with nearly three lakh voters constituting the electorate for the Ladakh seat.
