Prof. Ashutosh Gupta appointed Inquiry Officer to investigate GMC Udhampur incident
Srinagar, January 28: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has ordered a comprehensive enquiry into the circumstances surrounding the circulation of certain videos on social media in connection with Government Medical College (GMC), Udhampur, on January 27, 2026.
As per Government Order No. 67-JK (HME) of 2026, sanction has been accorded to the appointment of Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Gupta, Principal, Government Medical College, Jammu, as the Inquiry Officer to investigate the matter.
According to the order, the inquiry will thoroughly examine the sequence of events leading to the incident, and assess the administrative, security and institutional aspects related to the developments at GMC Udhampur that resulted in the videos being circulated online.
The government has directed the Inquiry Officer to conduct a detailed and impartial investigation and submit a reasoned and comprehensive report within a period of 15 days from the date of issuance of the order.
