Kalsotra met Avny Lavasa Distt Magistrate, Chairman SC/ST Atrocity Committee, demanded strict action

Demand for Swift Action: All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations Calls for Suspension of Negligent Police Officers and Timely Resolution of Atrocity Cases

Jammu 25.05.2023:  RK Kalsotra, State President, All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations along with Surinder Bhagat Chairman BDC, Marh members SC/ST Atrocity Committee met Ms Avny Lavasa Distt Magistrate, Jammu, Chairman SC/ST Atrocity Committee and apprised her about the increasing Caste atrocity cases.

Police and Administration have taken the SC, ST Atrocity Act lightly and it is presumed both failed. Many matters are occurring in UT-J&K, and in Jammu where the role of the police is slow and mostly delayed. Giving sufficient time to culprits to either end the case with threats or by involving people to negotiate and put an end to the matter.

Kalsotra apprised her that there is a rise in atrocities happening & concerning police stations on their own not registering the cases and unnecessarily delaying it and where the cases are registered under SC/ST Act is not arresting the culprits, a glaring example of the case is registered at Pouni Chak Police Station where a house of SC person was firstly smashed and laterally burnt because the SC boy married to a general caste girl. The family since 3rd April has left their home and stayed outside of the village with their relatives because of murderous threats from the married girl brothers.

On 23rd June a murderous attack happened on Rashpal Bhardwaj Corporator of JMC W No. 72 who belonged to the SC community and was severely injured and shifted outside UT for treatment because he was pursuing the case of SC aggrieved family & attacked by those who were already nominated in the burning of the house and even threatens the aggrieved family as well Rashpal. Another case occurred at Gharota Police Chowki where a female SPO (SC) was injured by Munshi of the Chowki. A few days earlier one more SC lady was assaulted at Bishnah.

This is an injustice with the Act. Administration and Police should come forward to take strong steps to curb this type of incident in the future.

Kalsotra & Surinder asked Madam Lavasa to direct concerned authorities to take care and provide healthcare benefits to Rashpal Ji and provide security to the married boy and his family as well as Rashpal and suspend the police officers who failed to perform their duties and inquire about about the issue, if found guilty do involve him in SC, ST Atrocity Case and also registered the Gharota case under SC/ST Atrocity case and hold at an earliest the SC/ST Atrocity committee meeting to follow all the pending cases with utmost urgency.
