Karra takes strong exception to the police misbehavior, attempt to disrupt peaceful Hunger strike.
Asks police not to behave as Frontal Organization of BJP, allow peaceful protests in democracy.
- Hunger strike shall continue as per schedule at Shaheedi Chowk.
Jammu, August 10 : JKPCC Chief Shri Tariq Hameed Karra alongwith the top leadership of the party today took strong exception to tne misbehavior and and manhandling by the police officers at Shaheedi Chowk in an attempt to disrupt the peaceful hunger strike in the open sky on a footpath outside PCC HQ.
Addressing an emergency press conference on the site of the hunger strike PCC Chief and senior leaders including Working President Raman Bhalla, Former M.P. Ch. Lal Singh, Former Minister Mula Ram Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, AICC Secretary Shahnawaz Choudhary , Formers Minister Yogesh Sawhney, and all other Senior Congress leaders condemned the misbehavior of the police officers SDPO and the SHO concerned.
JKPCC Chief explained that congress party had already announced and formally informed the administration about the schedule of peaceful hunger strike at Maharaja Hari SinghJi statue site at Tawi Bridge from morning 10 A.M. tgill evening from today
Till 19th August exempting 15th August(Independence Day) and 16th August (holy festival) and had requested for allowing to erect a small cover from the heat. In addition had also requested for allowing a cover shamiyana at Shaheedi Chowk Park in the vacant space, without causing any hindrance to the traffic.
He said that large number of workers and leaders assembled at Tawi bridge and started hunger strike in the open after garlanding the statue of Maharaja and after two hours shifted the site to Shaheedi Chowk, however the police had not allowed any cover shamiyana at the proposed site and thus were forced to continue hunger strike sitting on a footpath. After some time a police man was sent by the said officers to take photograph arrogantly from his front as if criminals were sitting there. It was objected to , upon which the said SDPO alongwith SHO came on spot and started misbehaving and manhandling with him and other senior leaders.
He said that this kind of behavior and attitude of the police officer at such sensitive place is highly irresponsible and questionable with the senior leaders including MLAs, former ministers, Legislators and other prominent leaders . He said that in the past also in a similar situation of peaceful protests the said officers had placed barbed wire before the barricade against the SOP and putting the life of peaceful protestors to risk of injuries . This was done when the proposal of peaceful march was already
Discussed and settled with police officers. Not only this he publically assaulted the Hon’ble MLA Rajouri in the said peaceful protest which indicates his irresponsible and anti-democratic mind set.
The PCC leaders asked the police not to behave as a frontal organization of BJP against the peaceful people and questioned that if this is attitude and approach of the police towards the senior political leaders, what the common people must be facing in their day today lives. They said that the peaceful hunger strike for the restoration of statehood shall continue as per schedule.
