JAMMU, Oct 23: A week after a devastating fire destroyed 85 homes in Malwarwan village, Warwan tehsil of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has approved financial assistance of ₹1.70 crore for the affected families.
The funds, aimed at providing immediate relief, were transferred to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kishtwar’s official account by the Director of Finance. Each of the 85 families affected by the fire will receive ₹2 lakh in compensation.
In a letter addressed to DC Kishtwar, the Director of Finance stated, “The Chief Minister has sanctioned ₹170 lakh from the J&K Relief Fund for the victims of the Malwarwan fire. The amount has been transferred via NEFT for further distribution.”
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had visited the fire-ravaged area soon after assuming office, where he assured the victims of financial help. His prompt action reflects the government’s commitment to supporting those affected.
In addition to the government’s efforts, several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have been actively working to provide relief and assist in the rehabilitation process, which is currently underway. The combined efforts of the government and NGOs are expected to offer significant relief to the displaced families as they begin to recover from the tragedy.
