Mamata Banerjee Vows to Fight Communal Forces Promoting Hate

On Ambedkar’s death anniversary, West Bengal CM asserts unity and peace in the state while opposing divisive forces

Kolkata, Dec 06 : West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday reaffirmed her commitment to fighting communal forces that spread hatred and emphasized her government’s dedication to protecting and strengthening the values enshrined in India’s Constitution.

Her remarks came on a day when suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone for a mosque in Beldanga, Murshidabad, modelled on Ayodhya’s Babri Masjid. December 6 also marks the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, which the TMC observed as ‘Sanhati Divas’ (Unity Day), promoting peace, harmony, and communal amity.

Taking to X, Banerjee said, “The soil of Bengal is the soil of unity. This is the land of Rabindranath, Nazrul, and Ramakrishna Vivekananda. It has never bowed to divisive forces, and it never will.”

She added, “Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Jains, and Buddhists Bengal knows how to walk shoulder to shoulder. Our festivals are shared by all, even as each practices their own faith freely.”

Paying tribute to Dr B.R. Ambedkar on his Mahaparinirvan Diwas, Banerjee said, “Our struggle will continue against those who fan the flames of communal hatred. We remain committed to upholding the ideals of Dr Ambedkar, the guiding light of our democracy.”

Banerjee highlighted Bengal’s historic contribution to India’s constitutional framework, noting that Ambedkar was elected to the Constituent Assembly from the Bengal legislature and praised the state’s role in shaping his monumental work.

She concluded, “Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar was an unparalleled thinker and social reformer. His contributions to drafting the Constitution of India remain immortal, and it is our duty to protect and strengthen the values he enshrined for the nation.”
