Mariah Carey Breaks Silence on Eminem Feud, Shares Her Side of the Story
Singer Mariah Carey has finally opened up about her much-talked-about feud with rapper Eminem, a topic that has lingered for over two decades. During a playful segment on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, the 56-year-old pop superstar was asked about the speculation linking their tension to Eminem’s 2002 film 8 Mile.
Cohen, hosting his famous “Plead the Fifth” game, questioned Carey about the claim that the feud began when Eminem wanted her to play his mother in the film. Carey responded in her signature witty style part vague, part teasing, and sprinkled with humor.
“From what I heard, there is truth to that,” Carey said. “But I don’t think he actually… well, who knows who approached who?” She added, “I really don’t care. Like, whatever he’s said, then I’m that, fine. Not really. But that’s a rap lyric.”
The rumor gained traction after producer Damion ‘Damizza’ Young claimed on the TFU podcast that Eminem once considered Carey for the role, which ultimately went to Kim Basinger. According to him, Carey’s “insecurities kicked in,” leading her to reject the offer.
The Mariah Carey–Eminem feud stretches back years. Eminem has repeatedly insisted that the two briefly dated, even calling her a “diva” whose personality clashed with his. Carey, however, has consistently denied a serious relationship, stating, “I hung out with him, I spoke to him on the phone… I don’t consider that dating somebody.”
Despite decades passing, the supposed Carey-Eminem saga still manages to resurface, keeping fans intrigued about one of pop culture’s most enduring celebrity clashes.
