MEA Closely Monitoring Health Condition of Smit Machchhar

Captain Smit Machchhar, who was injured in an alleged attack by his co-pilot aboard a Dubai-Tel Aviv flight, has been moved from Saudi Arabia to Abu Dhabi for further medical treatment.

India, Oct 02 : India is closely monitoring the health and recovery of Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian pilot who sustained serious injuries after being allegedly stabbed by his co-pilot aboard a Flydubai aircraft, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday.

Machchhar has been transferred to Abu Dhabi for continued medical care after receiving initial treatment at a hospital in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

The incident occurred on Wednesday aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073, which was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The aircraft, carrying 174 people, made an emergency landing in Tabuk, located in northwestern Saudi Arabia, following the reported attack inside the cockpit.

In an official statement, the MEA said it was maintaining close contact regarding the captain’s medical condition and recovery. The ministry also acknowledged his courage in responding to the situation.

India’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Deepak Mittal, visited Machchhar at the hospital to enquire about his health. The envoy had also met the pilot’s family earlier and assured them of all possible assistance.

The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate in Dubai are coordinating with local authorities to provide support and follow up on the matter, according to the MEA.

The ministry expressed appreciation for the pilot’s bravery and conveyed gratitude for the widespread support and recognition he has received following the incident.

Mittal also shared an update after meeting Machchhar, saying he was reassured by the captain’s condition and that he was recovering well. The ambassador thanked the UAE government for providing medical assistance and support.

He further praised Machchhar for his actions, saying his bravery had helped protect the lives of those aboard the aircraft and avert a potential tragedy.

The Indian government continues to follow developments as the pilot receives further treatment in Abu Dhabi.
