MP Police Arrest Coldrif Manufacturer Owner Over Children’s Deaths

Ranganathan Govindan of Sresan Pharmaceuticals taken into custody after at least 20 children die from Coldrif syrup in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh , Oct 09 : In a major breakthrough, the Madhya Pradesh Police have arrested Ranganathan Govindan, owner of Chennai-based Sresan Pharmaceuticals, the company that produced the Coldrif cough syrup allegedly linked to the deaths of at least 20 children in the state.

According to the Chhindwara SP, Govindan will be presented before a Chennai court before being brought to Madhya Pradesh.

The arrests follow Health Minister Rajendra Shukla’s revelation that 20 children have died across Chhindwara, Betul, and Pandhurna districts, while five others are undergoing treatment after consuming the syrup.

“Twenty children have lost their lives in this tragic incident. The state government is taking strict action. Police teams from Chhindwara reached Chennai and Kanchipuram to arrest the owner of Coldrif manufacturing company,” Shukla said.

Earlier this month, Dr. Praveen Soni, a Madhya Pradesh based doctor who allegedly prescribed the contaminated syrup to children in his Parasia clinic, was also arrested and sent to 14-day judicial custody.

Authorities have registered a case against Sresan Pharmaceuticals. In response to the tragedy, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav banned the sale of Coldrif syrup in the state, directed seizure of existing stocks, and suspended two drug inspectors.

This incident has triggered widespread concern over the safety and regulation of pharmaceutical products in the state, prompting authorities to take stringent action against those responsible.
