18-02-2023 : At a party function, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti expressed her belief that the people of Jammu and Kashmir now understand the importance of Article 370 as a protective shield for them, following the BJP-led government’s demolition of homes and businesses belonging to the poor. She defended her father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s decision to ally with the BJP after the 2014 Assembly polls, stating that he had “caged the beast” and prevented havoc from being wreaked upon the state. Mufti also explained that her father had agreed to form a government with the BJP on conditions that ensured protection for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and their identity. Mufti claimed that if she had followed the BJP’s line, she would still be the chief minister of the state today, but the BJP withdrew from the government because she did not do so.
