Neeraj Ghaywan’s Film Enters Oscars Best International Feature Voting Round

India’s entry among 15 global films shortlisted for Academy Awards consideration

India, Dec 06 : Indian cinema continues to shine on the global stage, with Neeraj Ghaywan’s critically acclaimed film Homebound moving forward in the Academy Awards race. The film has officially advanced to the next round of voting in the Best International Feature Film category, joining a shortlist of 15 films from around the world.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed that Homebound is now competing alongside entries from Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Iraq, Japan, South Korea, Spain, and more. Out of submissions from 86 countries and regions, only fifteen films made it to this stage, underscoring the significance of the achievement for Indian cinema.

Shortlist of Films:
Other notable films in the running include Belen (Argentina), The Secret Agent (Brazil), It Was Just an Accident (France), Sound of Falling (Germany), The President’s Cake (Iraq), Kokuho (Japan), Palestine 36 (Palestine), No Other Choice (South Korea), and Sirat (Spain). The Academy highlighted the global reach of these films via a world map on social media.

About Homebound:
Homebound stars Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa as childhood friends Shoaib and Chandan, whose shared dream of joining the police force tests their bond under ambition, duty, and societal pressures. Janhvi Kapoor adds depth and vulnerability to the narrative, reflecting the contemporary challenges faced by young Indians.

Team Behind the Film:
Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan of Masaan fame, Homebound is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, and Apoorva Mehta, with Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan Du Plantier as co-producers. Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese and Pravin Khairnar serve as executive producers. The film has already garnered international acclaim at festivals including Cannes, Toronto, and Melbourne.

The final Academy Award nominations will be announced on January 22, 2026. If selected, Homebound will mark another historic milestone for Indian cinema on the global stage.
