Omar Abdullah Asserts, Elections in J&K Are Our Right, Not a Begging Game

06-06-2023: The National Conference’s vice president and former chief minister, Omar Abdullah, emphasized on Tuesday that elections are a fundamental right of the people and that he will not beg anyone to hold them. Omar said in a statement to reporters, “We also have our self-respect, and we won’t beg before anyone to hold the elections here. Elections are a fundamental right of the populace, so the Election Commission must act.

Didn’t the Chief Election Commissioner say that there is a void in J&K that needs to be filled, he continued to ask? Consequently, why isn’t that gap being filled? If the Election Commission is under pressure, it ought to make it abundantly clear that it cannot conduct elections in this region.

While praising the choice to have the G20 summit in Srinagar and present Kashmir to the world, Omar emphasised the significance of taking the local situation into account. He emphasised the terrible traffic condition in the area, saying that it takes 40 minutes to commute when it should just take five minutes. For the people, including students and government workers who struggle to get to schools and offices on time, this has resulted in serious difficulties. Additionally, poor traffic management has led to emergency situations where people in ambulances have passed away on the way to hospitals. Omar expressed concern over how the authorities appear to be ignoring or disregarding these issues.
