Pakistan National Repatriated After Crossing LoC in J&K’s Kupwara: Army

Man from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa handed over through Teetwal crossing after investigation; Army highlights humanitarian approach during detention.

Srinagar, June 19: A Pakistani national who was detained after illegally crossing the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district has been repatriated to Pakistan following due procedures, the Indian Army said on Friday.

The individual, identified as Asad Khan, a resident of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan, was handed over to Pakistani authorities on June 18 through the Teetwal crossing point in north Kashmir. The repatriation took place after security agencies completed the necessary verification and investigation processes.

According to the Srinagar based Chinar Corps, Khan was apprehended near Simari village in Kupwara on June 12 after he crossed into Indian territory under circumstances that prompted security concerns. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Army personnel, in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, intercepted the individual before any potential security threat could emerge.

Following his detention, Khan was questioned and his background was thoroughly examined by the concerned agencies. Officials said the investigation was conducted in accordance with established procedures to determine the circumstances surrounding his crossing of the LoC.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, the Chinar Corps said the Pakistani national was treated in a humane manner throughout his stay in India. The Army emphasized that its actions reflected a commitment to humanitarian values while maintaining strict vigilance along the sensitive border region.

“During his stay in India, Asad Khan was treated with dignity and compassion, reflecting the Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian values and conduct,” the Corps stated. It further noted that the safe return of the individual demonstrated the Army’s professionalism, responsibility and adherence to established military standards.

Officials familiar with the process said the handover was carried out at the Teetwal Bridge in the presence of representatives from the civil administration, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Army. The coordinated effort ensured a smooth and secure transfer in accordance with standard border protocols.

The incident once again highlights the challenges associated with monitoring the Line of Control, a heavily guarded frontier that separates Indian and Pakistani-controlled territories in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces remain on high alert to prevent unauthorized crossings and maintain stability in the border districts.

Authorities have reiterated that any suspicious movement along the LoC is treated seriously and investigated thoroughly. At the same time, cases involving civilians are handled in line with humanitarian principles and legal procedures.

The successful completion of the repatriation process marks the end of a week-long episode that began with the man’s detention in Kupwara and concluded with his return to Pakistan through official channels.
