PDP Chief Spokesperson Accuses Government of Weakening Jammu and Kashmir Economically
PDP Demands Rollback of Property Tax in Jammu and Kashmir
25-02-2023 : On Saturday, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led a protest march demanding the rollback of the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s decision to impose property tax in the Union Territory. The administration had announced on Tuesday that the property tax would be imposed in municipal areas starting from April 1, with rates set at five percent of taxable annual value for residential properties and six percent for commercial properties.
Dozens of PDP activists, including its chief spokesperson Suhail Bukhari, gathered at the party headquarters near Sher-e-Kashmir Park and marched towards Lal Chowk city center to protest against the property tax. However, they were stopped by police near the Traffic Headquarters and later dispersed.
Speaking to reporters, Bukhari accused the government of trying to economically weaken the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that the economic situation in the region had worsened in the last five years, with no employment generation and a weak industrial sector. Bukhari demanded that the government roll back the decision and criticized the BJP government for exacerbating the troubles of the people instead of supporting them.
