New Delhi, June 06 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to the rapid advancement of Union Territories, stating that a series of newly launched projects will play a crucial role in transforming local economies and improving public services.

Addressing a public gathering in Daman, the Prime Minister said the infrastructure initiatives spanning transportation, healthcare, education, tourism and urban development are designed to enhance the quality of life for residents of Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. He noted that these investments would also pave the way for long-term economic growth and expanded employment opportunities.

Modi emphasized that improved connectivity and modern civic infrastructure would encourage business activity while strengthening the region’s tourism and hospitality sectors. According to him, the projects are expected to create a strong foundation for future development and attract greater private investment.

Highlighting environmental sustainability, the Prime Minister praised the administration’s efforts in undertaking a large scale plantation drive involving one lakh saplings across the Union Territory. He described the initiative as an important step toward balancing development with ecological responsibility.

The Prime Minister also pointed to the region’s progress in renewable energy adoption, noting that all government buildings in the Union Territory are powered by solar energy. He added that Diu has already achieved the milestone of meeting its daytime electricity requirements through solar power generation and called for the expansion of clean energy solutions to households.

Referring to major projects including a new airport terminal, bridge infrastructure, beachfront development, convention facilities and healthcare institutions, Modi said these investments would open new avenues for entrepreneurship and economic activity. He stressed that such projects are essential for building a modern and self-reliant regional economy.

The Prime Minister further revealed that foundation stones have been laid for port development projects on two islands in Lakshadweep. He said the initiatives form part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen India’s blue economy and unlock the maritime potential of island territories.
