Power Outage Plight: JK High Court Demands Immediate Action from Chief Secretary to Restore Electricity
Srinagar, 19-02-2024: Following a complete power outage at the Srinagar wing of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, the Court issued a directive on Monday, urging the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory to swiftly address the electricity crisis.
Expressing grave concerns over the power failure, a Division Bench of the High Court, comprising Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi and Justice Atul Sreedharan, characterized the situation as “pathetic.”
During court proceedings on Monday, the High Court encountered a total power failure, rendering the generator non-functional, plunging the premises into darkness, and disrupting essential facilities such as the Air Heating Unit (AHU). The Court decried the deplorable condition of the Srinagar wing, emphasizing the urgency of rectifying the situation.
Highlighting the severity of the issue, the Court noted that the power outage occurred around 9:45 am and persisted even when the directive was issued at approximately 11:28 am, indicating a lack of swift resolution.
In light of the escalating crisis, the Division Bench stressed the imperative of finding a permanent solution to address the recurrent power disruptions. It directed the Chief Secretary of the Union Territory to take immediate action to remedy the situation.
The Court outlined potential solutions, including establishing a dedicated power line to the High Court premises, bolstered by backup generators capable of sustaining uninterrupted power supply to the entire facility, including the AHU.
Emphasizing the urgency of the matter, the Court urged prompt intervention to ensure seamless functioning of the High Court and mitigate disruptions caused by power failures.
