Pralhad Joshi Discusses Measures to Strengthen Higher Education

Education Minister takes stock of key initiatives, examination reforms and steps to improve academic quality and student opportunities.

NEW DELHI, Aug 20: Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi on Thursday held discussions with senior officials of the Education Ministry to review key priorities and measures aimed at strengthening the country’s higher education system.

In a post on X, Joshi said the meeting covered initiatives focused on improving the quality of education, promoting institutional excellence and widening opportunities for students.

“Engaged with senior officials of the @EduMinOfIndia on strengthening the higher education ecosystem. We took stock of key priorities and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of education, promoting institutional excellence and expanding opportunities for our students,” he said.

The review comes as the Education Ministry steps up efforts to address concerns surrounding the conduct and security of major examinations following recent controversies involving UGC-NET and NEET-UG.

Joshi had earlier chaired a meeting with senior ministry officials to assess measures required for the smooth and secure conduct of examinations. The ministry subsequently directed that necessary security arrangements and infrastructure be strengthened at examination centres.

Following the minister’s directions, National Testing Agency Director General Abhishek Singh briefed the ministry on measures undertaken by the agency, which conducts several major entrance and eligibility examinations across the country.

The government has also announced a comprehensive overhaul of the NTA’s examination system. The proposed changes include a four-tier paper-checking mechanism, the induction of new experts and the removal of around 600 existing experts as part of efforts to strengthen the examination framework.

The agency is also moving towards securing its operational infrastructure, including the use of premises protected by the Central Industrial Security Force.

The latest review reflects the ministry’s broader focus on improving examination integrity, strengthening institutional standards and creating a more reliable academic environment for students.

Joshi’s discussions with senior officials are expected to guide further action on education quality, institutional development and examination reforms across the higher education sector.
