Punjab Police Foil ISI-Linked Terror Plot, Arrest Suspect With Four Grenades
Joint intelligence operation in Amritsar and Mohali uncovers foreign-backed plot with links to recent Chandigarh attack
CHANDIGARH, Apr 16: In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, the Punjab Police on Thursday announced the dismantling of an ISI-backed terror module, leading to the arrest of a key suspect and the seizure of a cache of explosives and illegal arms.
The operation was carried out jointly by the State Special Operations Cells based in Amritsar and Mohali, in coordination with the Counter Intelligence Wing. According to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the security forces recovered four hand grenades along with two foreign made pistols and a significant quantity of ammunition from the accused.
Officials revealed that the arrested individual was allegedly operating under the directions of handlers based abroad, indicating a cross border conspiracy aimed at destabilizing the region. Preliminary findings have further established links between the suspect and a terror network believed to be involved in the recent grenade attack in Chandigarh.
The DGP stated that the swift and coordinated action highlights the Punjab Police’s commitment to neutralizing emerging threats and maintaining internal security. He added that the accused was part of a broader network, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other operatives connected to the module.
An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar. Authorities have intensified the investigation to trace the supply chain of the weapons, uncover communication channels used by the handlers, and dismantle the entire network.
Security agencies remain on high alert as they continue to monitor potential threats and strengthen intelligence-sharing mechanisms to prevent any future incidents.
