Rahul Warns Government Could Fall If Opposition Sustains Its Current Push
Congress leader tells INDIA bloc MPs that recent protests have shaken the government, calls for its removal and criticises Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
NEW DELHI, Oct 9: Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday claimed that continued pressure from opposition parties could bring down the government, asserting that protests over the past three to four days had unsettled the ruling establishment.
Addressing INDIA bloc MPs at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, the Congress leader said the issue extended beyond Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and required a change in the government.
“There is a much deeper problem than Gyanesh Kumar and it requires termination of this current government,” Gandhi said.
He described the issue as one worth fighting for, emphasising the need for sustained opposition action.
Criticising the Chief Election Commissioner, Gandhi said Kumar was a service provider and questioned his reported reluctance to meet elected representatives of the people.
Gandhi maintained that the opposition’s recent protests had put the government under pressure and argued that continuing the campaign could have significant political consequences.
“If we continue to push the way we have in last three-four days, I guarantee this government will fall,” the former Congress president said.
His remarks came amid heightened tensions between opposition parties and the government over electoral issues and the role of the Election Commission. The Congress leader urged opposition MPs to maintain their momentum, presenting their campaign as a broader political struggle rather than a dispute centred solely on the Chief Election Commissioner.
