Railways Achieves Landmark: Two Goods Rakes Unloaded Simultaneously

Simultaneous unloading of Maruti Suzuki vehicles at Jammu and Anantnag terminals marks a historic step in regional logistics efficiency.

JAMMU, Oct 9: In a historic achievement for logistics and transportation in Jammu and Kashmir, Northern Railways successfully conducted simultaneous unloading of two goods rakes in the Union Territory for the first time, officials said on Thursday.

The dual unloading involved NMG (New Modified Goods) rakes carrying Maruti Suzuki vehicles at the Bari Brahmana goods shed in Jammu and the Anantnag goods terminal in the Kashmir Valley, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal, confirmed.

The rakes were transported from Gurugram in Delhi Division to the respective terminals. At Bari Brahmana, 113 vehicles of various models were unloaded, while 118 vehicles were handled at Anantnag. Singhal described this as a landmark achievement, highlighting the scale and efficiency of the operation.

The vehicles included popular Maruti Suzuki models such as Alto, Brezza, Eeco, Dzire, Wagon R, S-Presso, Ignis, Super Carry, and Ertiga, reflecting the growing demand for efficient and reliable rail transport in the region.

“This historic dual unloading underscores the increasing preference of trade and industry for Indian Railways over road transport, thanks to its cost-efficiency, reliability, and timely delivery,” said Singhal.

He added that Northern Railways’ expanded freight portfolio is now facilitating the bulk movement of automobiles, perishable goods, cement, and courier services, marking a significant transformation in the logistics landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.

“The advanced infrastructure and seamless operations of the Railways are gradually shifting the traditional bias from road to rail transport,” Singhal noted. He emphasized that this initiative not only enhances business opportunities but also reduces carbon emissions and ensures safe, bulk movement of goods across the Union Territory.
