RBI Bulletin Flags Inflation Risks Despite Resilience in Indian Economy

The central bank says domestic activity remains supported but warns that crude prices, monsoon uncertainty and global trade pressures could pose challenges.

MUMBAI, Aug 26: The Reserve Bank of India has highlighted continued resilience in the domestic economy while cautioning that inflation and external uncertainties could pose challenges to growth in the months ahead.

The assessment formed part of the central bank’s August 2026 Bulletin, released on August 25, which includes its latest review of economic activity, financial conditions and developments across key sectors.

The RBI’s monthly publication covers monetary policy, banking, prices, industrial production, financial markets, foreign trade and other indicators of the Indian economy.

The central bank has maintained a close watch on price pressures amid changes in global commodity markets and geopolitical conditions. Rising crude oil prices remain an important risk for India because of the country’s dependence on imported energy.

The economic assessment also comes against the backdrop of uncertainty surrounding global trade and financial markets. External developments could affect domestic inflation, capital flows and the cost of imports.

At the same time, the RBI’s latest assessment points to continued domestic economic activity, supported by demand conditions and developments across several sectors.

The August Bulletin also includes the monetary policy statement issued after the RBI’s August 3-5 meeting, along with updates on financial markets, banking activity and the external sector.

The central bank’s latest observations underline the need to balance economic growth with price stability as India navigates an uncertain international environment.
