Robyn Reveals She Always Disliked Elon Musk, Long Before It Became Trendy
Swedish pop star behind hits like ‘Dancing On My Own’ cites SpaceX stunts and Bowie controversy as reasons for early disdain
India, Jan 15 : Swedish pop sensation Robyn, famous for chart-toppers such as Dancing On My Own and Call Your Girlfriend, has openly admitted she has never been a fan of Elon Musk. The singer made her remarks during a recent episode of the Las Culturistas podcast, leaving hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers both amused and impressed.
“I always hated Elon Musk. Way before it was cool,” Robyn said. “Because there was a time when it wasn’t cool to hate him.”
Robyn explained that her frustration with Musk dates back to 2018, when the entrepreneur launched a cherry-red Tesla Roadster into space aboard a SpaceX rocket. “As if there wasn’t enough stuff floating around already,” she said. “The idea that a commercial company can just decide what to do with natural resources, and then do something tacky like send a stupid car into space it made me furious.”
The pop star also expressed disappointment over Musk’s use of David Bowie’s Space Oddity for the launch. “Just to sell cars?” she said. “Bowie would turn in his grave if he knew his song was being used like that.” Robyn’s critique stems from her consistent disapproval of Musk’s mix of spectacle, showmanship, and commercialization, long before the wider public began voicing concerns.
Her early disdain now aligns with broader public opinion. A Gallup poll from August 2025 found that 61% of Americans view Musk negatively, marking a 14-point rise since earlier surveys conducted before his controversial stint at the Department of Government Efficiency.
