Rublev Storms Into Estoril Open Quarter finals With Commanding Straight Sets Victory
Russian star drops just two games in a clinical performance to strengthen his title hopes in Portugal.
Estoril, July 24: Top seed Andrey Rublev delivered one of his most convincing performances of the season by cruising into the quarter finals of the Estoril Open with a dominant straight sets victory.
Rublev overwhelmed lucky loser Timofey Skatov 6-1, 6-1, controlling the contest from the opening game with powerful groundstrokes and consistent serving. The Russian needed little time to wrap up the match, conceding only two games throughout the encounter.
The emphatic win marks a welcome return to form for Rublev after an inconsistent run earlier in the season. His aggressive baseline play and improved service game left his opponent with few opportunities to mount any resistance.
Elsewhere in the tournament, Portuguese player Jaime Faria also advanced to the quarter-finals, delighting home supporters with another impressive display. The tournament continues to feature several top ranked players competing for valuable ATP ranking points ahead of the North American hard-court season.
With confidence growing after his commanding victory, Rublev will head into the last eight as one of the favourites to lift the Estoril Open title. Tennis analysts believe his current form could provide the ideal momentum before the upcoming US Open preparations.
