Saugat Biswas Appointed Divisional Commissioner (Central) in Arunachal Pradesh
Experienced AGMUT cadre officer assigned additional responsibility as part of a major administrative restructuring in the northeastern state.
ITANAGAR, June 6: The Arunachal Pradesh Government has assigned senior IAS officer Saugat Biswas the additional responsibility of overseeing the Central Division in a significant bureaucratic reshuffle aimed at strengthening administrative governance across the state.
Currently serving as Commissioner for Transport and also handling responsibilities in the Law Department, Biswas will now take charge of the Central Division while continuing with his existing assignments. The appointment forms part of a wider reorganisation of administrative positions announced by the state government.
A member of the 2006 batch of the AGMUT cadre, Biswas brings extensive administrative experience spanning multiple sectors and regions. Over the course of his career, he has managed a range of important assignments involving district administration, public service delivery, healthcare logistics, information technology and governance.
During his tenure in Jammu and Kashmir, he held several influential positions and earned recognition for his work in public administration. His previous assignments included leading district-level governance initiatives, overseeing medical procurement systems and managing transport-related policy implementation.
Biswas also played an important role in the Information Technology Department, where he contributed to digital governance and administrative modernisation efforts. His experience in handling complex governmental responsibilities is expected to support efficient functioning within the Central Division.
Following the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir and the creation of the Union Territory of Ladakh, the officer was entrusted with senior administrative duties in the region. His service in Ladakh added to his experience in managing governance challenges in strategically important and geographically diverse areas.
Officials familiar with the reshuffle stated that the latest appointment reflects the government’s emphasis on placing experienced officers in key administrative positions to enhance coordination, policy execution and public service delivery.
The move is expected to strengthen governance mechanisms in the Central Division and support the implementation of development initiatives across the region. With a background that spans district administration, transport management, healthcare systems and technology-driven governance, Biswas is expected to play an important role in advancing the state’s administrative objectives.
