Search Operation Launched in Samba district After Suspected Pakistan Drone Sighting in Jammu and Kashmir
Security forces intensify surveillance along the border in Jammu and Kashmir amid fears of arms or narcotics being dropped.
Samba, Mar 14 : Security forces on Saturday launched an extensive search operation in several forward villages of Samba district after a suspected drone from Pakistan was spotted entering Indian territory across the International Border, officials said.
According to authorities, the drone was observed hovering for a short period over the villages of Kandral, Abtal and Bahadurpur in the Ramgarh sector late Friday night. The movement triggered an alert among border security personnel, prompting increased surveillance in the area.
At daybreak, joint teams of security forces initiated a large-scale search across the villages and surrounding fields to ensure that no arms, explosives or narcotics had been dropped from the unmanned aerial vehicle. Officials said the operation was aimed at preventing cross-border smuggling attempts frequently linked to drone activity along the frontier in Jammu and Kashmir.
The latest incident comes shortly after security agencies recovered more than 3.5 kilograms of heroin, estimated to be worth over ₹20 crore in the international market, from border villages in the R S Pura sector during the past two days. Investigators believe the contraband was dropped by drones operating from across the border.
Authorities also detained two suspected narcotics smugglers for questioning following the recent recovery in the R S Pura area. Security agencies have intensified monitoring along sensitive stretches of the International Border to prevent further infiltration or smuggling attempts.
