Jaipur, March 3: Abhay Singh, popularly known as ‘IIT Baba,’ who gained prominence during the Maha Kumbh, was arrested from a hotel in Jaipur’s Shiprapath area after being found in possession of a small quantity of ganja, police said on Monday. He was later granted bail.
According to Shiprapath Station House Officer (SHO) Rajendra Kumar Godara, police were alerted after a video allegedly showing Singh threatening to commit suicide began circulating widely on social media. Responding to the situation, a team of officers reached the hotel, where they questioned Singh. During the interrogation, a small quantity of ganja was recovered from his possession, following which he was taken into custody under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The police seized the contraband and formally registered a case against Singh. However, he was subsequently granted bail as per legal provisions.
Singh, who claims to be an IIT graduate turned spiritual preacher, gained attention for his unconventional views and public appearances during religious gatherings. His arrest has sparked discussions on social media, with many questioning the circumstances surrounding the incident. Meanwhile, authorities have stated that further investigations are ongoing.
