Sensex Surges 544 Points as Hopes of Gulf Peace Talks Lift Market Sentiment
Optimism over possible Iran-US negotiations lifts global equities, while Nifty posts a sharp late session rally.
India, Aug 04 : Indian benchmark equity indices ended Monday’s trading session on a strong note, supported by improved global sentiment after hopes emerged of diplomatic negotiations between Iran and the United States to ease tensions in the Persian Gulf. The possibility of peace talks pushed crude oil prices lower, encouraging buying across global markets and lifting investor confidence on Dalal Street.
The BSE Sensex advanced 544 points, or 0.7%, to settle at 78,639, its highest closing level in more than three months. The NSE Nifty outperformed, surging 391 points, or 1.6%, to finish at 24,774, driven by robust buying during the final minutes of trade.
Lower crude oil prices were a key positive for Indian equities, as softer energy costs are expected to reduce inflationary pressures and improve India’s import outlook. Investors responded positively to easing geopolitical concerns, leading to broad based gains across several sectors.
Market participants also tracked developments in global financial markets, where improved risk appetite encouraged investments in equities. Banking, financial, and energy related stocks witnessed healthy demand, contributing to the benchmark indices’ strong performance.
Despite the rally in equities, the Indian rupee remained largely unchanged against the US dollar, ending near 95.33. Forex traders attributed the limited movement to sustained demand for the greenback from importers and state owned banks, which offset support from positive market sentiment.
Analysts said investor focus will remain on geopolitical developments, crude oil price movements, global economic indicators, and upcoming corporate earnings, all of which are expected to influence market direction in the coming sessions. The latest rally reflects growing optimism that easing tensions in the Middle East could provide further support to financial markets worldwide.
