Shiv Sena expressed concern over rampant criminal incidents, raised demand for police verification of outsiders
Dozens of Shiv Sainiks returned home with their supporters
Jammu: Jammu city, once considered a peaceful area in the cities of North India, has become a hub of theft, crime, drug and cow smuggling, looting, and prostitution in the last few years. The increasing number of outsiders, along with unemployment and drug addiction, and the lack of solid police records and verification are the main reasons, says Shiv Sena UBT Jammu-Kashmir unit chief Manish Sahni.
In a program organized today at the party’s state central office, about a dozen Shiv Sainiks (leaders of the Shinde faction) have returned home.
On this occasion, state head Manish Sahni said that Jammu, the city of temples, which is counted among the peaceful cities of North India, has become a hub of crime, robbery, drug and cow smuggling, prostitution, etc. for the last few years, which has affected the image of Jammu.
Although rising unemployment and drug addiction are the main reasons, after the abrogation of Article 370, people from outside states (many with criminal backgrounds) have been rapidly coming to Jammu and its surrounding areas.
According to the information, outsiders easily commit criminal incidents and escape their state. On an average, two to three theft incidents are being registered every day in various police station areas of Jammu city. Vehicles and tires parked outside houses have started getting stolen. Jammu’s ring road has become a hub of cow smuggling, robbery, and drug smuggling. One feels scared to go out alone on foot or in a car on the streets of Jammu late at night.
Sahni said that he has no doubts about the capability of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Sahni has demanded police records and verification of the Rohingyas and people from other states living in Jammu and surrounding areas, along with fixing accountability. Along with this, he has also appealed to the local people to give information to the police about non-locals living in and around their homes.
